Community leads tribute for families of Mukilteo shooting victims

MUKILTEO, Wash. -- A community in mourning rallied at a local high school football game.

Friday night was the first game for Kamiak High School, the school where former students Anna Bui, Jake Long, and Jordan Ebner once attended.

In July, the three were shot and killed at a Mukilteo house party.

The principal of Kamiak says there’s healing power in community support. And that's what Friday night was all about.  Most at the football game were wearing purple wristbands that read “We Are Mukilteo” and “#MukilteoStrong.” At the tribute before the game, three candles were lit representing the three lives taken.

“Mukilteo Strong is our theme and it’s tremendous,” said Kamiak High Principal Michael Gallagher.

Some of Kamiak High School's attention was on football, but a piece of thought was always on those lost during summer break.

“We’ve remembered Anna Bui, Jake Long, and Jordan Ebner,” said Gallagher.

The community honored their families one-by-one leading up to a moment of silence.  Emotions are still strong and tears poured down. The Kamiak High band played Amazing Grace to comfort those in need.

“This is a tough time and it has been a tough time and it will be a tough time for some time to come,” said Mukilteo Mayor Jennifer Gregerson. “No community should ever suffer what we have.”

Counselors and a school resource officer are available to work with students as they urge dialogue to kick off recovery.
