SEATTLE — Authorities say a 43-year-old man who suffered life threatening injuries in a fire at an Auburn apartment has died.

Our news partner The Seattle Times reports that King County medical investigators say Emin Kadriji died Tuesday of burns and inhalation injuries sustained in the Monday fire. His death has been ruled an accident.

Valley Regional Fire Authority spokeswoman Kimberly Terhune says the blaze was caused by “improper use of smoking materials.”

Emergency personnel had removed Kadriji from the apartment and found him with severe burns.

He was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he died.

The fire remains under investigation.
