In surprise, Trump to fly south of the border to meet Mexico's president before big speech
EVERETT, Wash. -- In a surprise move, Donald Trump announced that he is flying to Mexico City Wednesday morning for a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto before he delivers his "big" immigration policy speech in Arizona later that day.
During the primary campaign, Trump said he would kick out the 11 million undocumented aliens in the United States, many of whom he said were "rapists," and build a 'huge' wall along the southern U.S. border to keep out Mexicans -- and would make Mexico pay for the wall. But he is believed to be softening his stance in the speech he is planning to deliver Wednesday.
The Washington Post said the possibility of the meeting in Mexico was raised in recent days.
Then on Tuesday night in Washington, where Trump was speaking to a rally in Everett, Trump tweeted out the announcement that is is going to Mexico on Wednesday.
According to the Washington Post, Pena Nieto extended an invitation for the billionaire businessman to visit him in Mexico to talk about political and economic issues and that Trump, sensing an opportunity, decided over the weekend to accept the invitation and push for a visit this week.
In a rally in Everett,Tuesday night, Trump rejected the idea that he has no chance of winning solid-blue Washington state in the November election. The state has not voted for a Republican for president since 1984.
"We're going to win this state," Trump told the crowd. "We're going to win the White House."
"Our country is going to hell," Trump said. "And we're not going to let it happen"
Trump accused people in the country of illegally of taking minority workers' jobs.
Trump told the largely white rally crowd of about 9,000 people in Everett that refugees and people living in the U.S. illegally "take jobs from hardworking African-Americans and Hispanic citizens."
The GOP nominee also says he's going to stop the flow of drugs across the southern border. He says he'll address the issue in Wednesday's speech.
Trump said he would not let Syrian refugees enter the United States and, instead, would set up "safe zones" in Syria and other countries. He did not say who would pay for those or if American troops would be involved.
Trump also railed against the Democratic Party, calling it the party of slavery and Jim Crow. The GOP presidential nominee says his party is the party of freedom, equality and opportunity.
He alleged that Democrats have "used" minority voters for "decades and decades" and will continue to use them.
He says he "will fight for you like no one ever has before."
When he accused Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton of taking part in 'pay to play' deals through the Clinton Foundation and allegedly not being truthful about her emails, the crowd began chanting, "Lock her up!"
"If you keep voting for the same people, Trump said, "you will keep getting the same horrible results, Remember that."
