Fire rages at vacant Seattle building, smoke seen for miles

SEATTLE -- Fire ripped through an abandoned building Sunday afternoon in Seattle, with the smoke carrying high into the sky.

The fire started in a dumpster in the 700 block of NE Northlake Way. Flames quickly jumped to the adjacent commercial building that was abandoned.

Firefighters moved into a defensive position as flames engulfed the building. Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze with large hose streams, but not before the fire shot plumes of smoke high into the sky.

No one was injured.

The Seattle Fire Department is investigating the cause of the blaze.
