Wildfire burning near Leavenworth forces mandatory evacuations in Chelan County

LEAVENWORTH -- A fast-burning wildfire near Leavenworth caused mandatory evacuations for area homeowners, and sent plumes of smoke through the town heavily traveled by tourists.

The Suncrest Fire grew to 75 acres Saturday afternoon, Washington Department of Natural Resource officials said.

Mandatory evacuations were in place for homes around the fire.

Crews were on scene trying to contain the blaze.
