Flashlight saves man from being shot after laser pointer sale in local park goes wrong

MILL CREEK, Wash. -- Police say a conflict escalated quickly after two men discussed the sale of a laser pointer after having a few drinks in Mill Creek.

According to Mill Creek police, the victim met up with the suspect and two other men early Friday morning at the boardwalk leading to North Creek Park. The group had a few alcoholic drinks, police said, before the victim discussed selling a laser pointer with one of the men.

Investigators say this discussion led to a disagreement over the exchange of money. The victim pulled out an airsoft gun out of concern for his safety. That's when police say the suspect pulled out a .40 caliber pistol.

As the victim was running away, the suspect fired a shot. Investigators later discovered the bullet hit a metal flashlight in the victim's backpack, possibly saving his life.

Police booked the suspect into Snohomish County Jail on Sunday. He is being held for investigation of attempted murder in the 2nd degree.
