Police shoot, kill man after armed standoff at Tukwila apartment building

TUKWILA, Wash. -- Police shot and killed a gunman in the Pyramid Pointe Apartments complex Thursday after an hourlong  standoff in which he refused to surrender and then opened fire on the officers, the Tukwila Police Department said.

Police said it all started at about 5:20 p.m. when two men got into an argument in the complex. As one of the men left in his car, the other man shot at him with a shotgun, blowing out the window of the car and injuring the man, police said.

The victim sped off in his car toward the Tukwila Police Department. But he got into a car crash with two other vehicles on 62nd Avenue, right outside the department.

As officers helped him, police said, he was able to tell them about the shooting. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening, police said.

Officers went to the apartment complex and contacted the suspect. Officers tried for about an hour to get him to come out, police said, but he refused to surrender and shot at officers with the shotgun. Two officers returned fire, killing him.

Police said the officers who fired their weapons will be placed on  paid administrative leave, pending an investigation, as is normal in shooting cases.
