Low-income families in Bellevue avoid eviction

BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) _ Housing officials in King County have alerted dozens of low-income families in Bellevue that they no longer face eviction.

The Seattle Times (http://bit.ly/2b0ym5g ) reports that King County Housing Authority agreed to spend $20 million to buy the apartment buildings. A number of other local governments also committed to help cover the cost of the purchase.

Earlier this year, Highland Village residents were notified that their buildings would be torn down and replaced by high-end local building, Intracorp.

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci says losing the Highland Village apartments would have resulted in hardship for many of the families involved.

The House Authority plans on keeping the rent at or near current price levels. The average rent in Bellevue is $1930 a month, while the average rent at Highland Village is $1,200 a month.
