Woman steals ambulance, leads police chief on slow-speed chase through Shelton

SHELTON, Wash. -- A 46-year-old woman left a hospital, jumped into an ambulance and led officers on a slow-speed chase Tuesday in Shelton.

According to Shelton police, officers were called around 8 a.m. to the woman's home. She told them she was hearing voices and was voluntarily taken to Mason General Hospital.

She later told workers she was not going to stay at the hospital. That's when police say she jumped into a Mason County Medic One ambulance and took off.

Police said the chief and another officer happened to be nearby and spotted the ambulance. They pursued the ambulance which didn't go more than 15 mph until the driver eventually stopped in the middle of a road near Kneeland Park.

She was taken into custody and booked into the Mason County Jail.
