Man sets patient ablaze in horrifying attack caught on camera

TIRANA, Albania — Three people died and another was badly injured after a man targeting a dialysis patient set fire to a hospital ward in Albania, according to local reports.

The attack happened at the American Hospital of Tirana, Albania’s capital city.

Surveillance footage shows a man in a white collared shirt and white baseball cap walk into the ward, where multiple patients are receiving treatment. That man, according to Albeu News, had previously had a dispute with one of the patients, identified only as 47-year-old D. Saraci.

Video shows him walking over to another man and suddenly dousing him with fluid identified by Albeu as gasoline. The two men struggle on the floor for several seconds until the suspect, identified by the Mirror 57-year-old Cenaj Lefter, manages to ignite the liquid, which almost instantly sparks a massive blaze.

Lefter and Saraci can both be seen catching fire as the blaze spreads to other hospital beds before obscuring the camera’s view. Lefter died in the attack and Saraci is fighting for his life, according to the Mirror. Two other patients not involved in the dispute died of asphyxiation.

The nature of the dispute that preceded the deadly fire is not clear.
