Former Haggen grocery store in Spanaway will reopen as Safeway once again

SPANAWAY, Wash. -- It started as a Safeway, but closed and rebranded after being sold to Haggen.

Soon after that, Haggen grocery stores went bankrupt and auctioned off some of their stores. The Spanaway location closed and sat empty for months.

But shoppers who frequented the store at 15805 Pacific Ave. will soon be right back where they started.

The News Tribune reports the store will reopen as Safeway in August.

“We are very excited about our Safeway grand re-opening on Wednesday, August 3,” Safeway spokesperson Tairsa Worman told the paper. The store will feature “a new fresh-cut program in (the) produce department as well as expanded offerings in our newly remodeled Starbucks.”
