5 King County corrections officers put on leave after 'significant amount' of money missing from guild fund

TUKWILA, Wash. -- The King County Corrections Guild confirmed Tuesday night that it found what appears to be misuse of a "significant amount" of guild funds by some former board members, and a source told Q13 News that three corrections officers, a sergeant and a captain have been placed on leave pending a police investigation.

The KCCG president, Darin Mease, issued a statement that read, in part:  "Earlier this year the Guild elected a new leadership team. Upon taking office we conducted an audit of our financial records and found evidence of what appears to be misuse of a significant amount of Guild funds by some former Board members. We have reported this to the Tukwila police and an investigation is underway. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no further comment."

One media outlet reported $150,000 was missing from the guild's fund, but a jail source told Q13 News that the guild believes much more money than $150,000 is missing. Its review of records is ongoing, the source said.
