Brother of man killed by Seattle police urges ‘togetherness’ through 'our pain'

SEATTLE -- The brother of a man who was shot and killed by Seattle police earlier this year reflected on the events of the week, including the deaths of two black men at the hands of police and the assassination of five law enforcement officers in Dallas.

Andre Taylor, whose brother Che Taylor was shot and killed by Seattle police officers in the Wedgwood neighborhood of Seattle in February, called it a difficult time for the country.

“I think it’s important at this particular point that we find some way together, and that togetherness now has to be through our pain,” he said.

“It is a tragedy for our county and at this particular time I think this could be our finest hour, as Winston Churchill once said. Sometimes it requires bloodshed, and it’s tragic, for people to begin to change things.”

While the shooting of Che Taylor was ruled justifiable, Andre Taylor went on to found a nonprofit called Not This Time to address issues of race and policing. Taylor joined Q13 News on Friday, alongside Teri Rogers Kemp, the lead attorney for Not This Time, who offered her thoughts on raising children at a time of such divisiveness.
