Suspect held on $50,000 bail after cross-border chase

BLAINE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say they have arrested a driver who led Canadian and U.S. officials on a cross-border chase that ended in Blaine.

The Bellingham Herald reports that the 32-year-old man was booked into the Whatcom County Jail Wednesday. Undersheriff Jeff Parks says he is being investigated on suspicion of having drugs, obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Authorities say the suspect drove through the Blaine truck crossing into Canada on Tuesday without stopping.

Officers pursued the vehicle before he tried to go back and re-enter Washington through the border crossing. Officers rammed his car and flattened the tires on the U.S. side of the border.

The suspect was then taken into custody. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
