CLE ELUM, Wash – The staff at the Chimpanzee sanctuary Northwest was having a normal day, until they saw smoke a few hundred yards away from their property.
According to the sanctuary, one of the chimps, Jamie, was the first to notice the smoke.
The property had to be evacuated but two of the directors stayed behind to help care for the seven chimps.
The staff says that most of the chimps remained calm while a few acted a little anxious – and stuck close by each other. One chimp, Foxie, even held a Dora doll close to her.
The staff gave the chimps extra treats and tried to follow their normal routine as usual.
They tell us all the chimps are asleep in their nests.
