Letter from jail found in stolen car leads cops to house full of stolen property

SEATTLE -- Seattle police seized hundreds of stolen property at a south Seattle home on Wednesday thanks to a clue left inside a stolen car.

Officers recovered the stolen car near Othello Park earlier this month and returned it to its rightful owner.

The owner later contacted police after discovering a letter inside. That letter, police said, was written by someone in the King County Jail to a woman at a home in the 7100 block of 44th Ave. S.

When officers went to the home on Wednesday, the saw the woman, who is well-known to police, peeking at them through a window. Police said a man answered the door and let officers inside. Officers noticed many expensive items including purses and a laptop that was marked with the name of a recent burglary victim.

Police arrested the 37-year-old woman and 41-year-old man. They also learned that the house was supposed to be vacant and scheduled to be put up for sale.

Investigators said they recovered about 300 items from the home and are working to return the stolen property back to their owners.
