One suspect shot dead, one escapes after early morning home invasion

EVERETT - Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies are continuing to investigate an early morning home invasion in South Everett.

Lt. Monte Beaton says just before 5 am, two intruders wearing masks reportedly kicked in the front door of a home on the 8700 block of Gothic Way.

One man living in the home told deputies he thought his roommates were being held at gunpoint, so he fired a few shots with his own weapon.

One suspect was killed. The other suspect was injured, but managed to escape. Deputies have been searching the area with K9 teams, and are asking hospitals to be on the lookout.

Deputies say it appears the intruders were armed with pepper spray.  It does not appear they knew the people in the home.

Mike Ryan, who lives down the street, says it’s scary to hear about a crime like this happening in his neighborhood. He doesn’t know what would have happened if the intruders had tried to break into his home.

“I don't own a gun. If I had one and I had someone coming at me, I'm not sure what I would do,” he says.

No arrests have been made yet.
