Brush fire burns about 200 acres in Grant County; mandatory evacuation orders rescinded

SOAP LAKE, Wash. -- A brush fire started by a rollover crash near Soap Lake spread to about 200 acres but was quickly contained,  the Grant County Sheriff's Office said.

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for about a dozen homes southeast of the 18000 block of State Route 17N near Soap Lake, but those orders were later rescinded, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's office spokesman Kyle Foreman said the fire was sparked by a one-vehicle rollover crash on State Route 17. The driver and passengers were able to get out of the car and were OK, he said, but the resulting fire from the accident quickly spread to some brush and grew to about 200 acres.

SR 17 was closed between State Route 282 and State Route 28, he said.

Firefighters from several agencies worked to contain the fire, he said.
