Man sentenced to 29 years in gang-related murder, assault

WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — A man affiliated with a local Walla Walla gang has been sentenced to over 29 years in prison for killing one man and wounding another in a shooting outside a tavern last year.

The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin reports (http://goo.gl/0zakBQ ) Superior Court Judge John Lohrmann sentenced 26-year-old Roberto Arroyo on Monday.

Prosecutors say Arroyo fatally shot Juan Pedro Martinez and injured Andrew Solis, who had previous ties to a gang, on Oct. 24.

Arroyo pleaded guilty to murder and assault in March as part of a plea deal. The sentence includes three years in prison for a firearm enhancement.

In court, Arroyo shouted obscenities at the judge, police officers and others and was removed for a time before being brought back to finish sentencing.
