Rare sighting: Short-beaked dolphins spotted off Victoria, B.C.

VICTORIA, B.C. -- In a rare sighting, a school of short-beaked common dolphins were spotted off Victoria, B.C., on Thursday, the Pacific Whale Watch Association said Friday.

Last Saturday, the school of dolphins were seen in the Port Angeles harbor.

These are believed to be the first sightings of this species in the inland waters of Washington and British Columbia, the association said. Short-beaked common dolphins are tropical or temperate animals and generally do not journey north of California, it said.
