Criminal investigation launched after severely injured dog found on side of road in Snohomish County

EVERETT, Wash. --Snohomish County Animal Control Services on Friday asked for help identifying a dog found severely injured, dehydrated and abandoned on June 9 on State Route 522 in unincorporated Snohomish County between Maltby and Woodinville.

Officials said a "Good Samaritan" called 911 on June 9 after finding a dog abandoned on SR 522 near Paradise Lake Road. They said a tall, white man with a mustache and wearing camouflage pants exited a black pickup truck on the side of the road and threw a cardboard box onto the shoulder of the road, then drove off westbound towards Maltby. The Good Samaritan noticed a dog next to the box, stopped and then called 911 when he saw the dog’s injuries.

The dog is a small female American Staffordshire terrier-type dog, about 3 years old, fawn and white in color with distinctive markings on her face and short, cropped ears. She has significant dog bite wounds to both front legs and multiple bite wounds over her body. The dog was found covered with a dark purple substance known as Wound-Kote often used to treat wounds on livestock.

The dog is currently in the custody of Snohomish County Animal Control Services at the Everett Animal Shelter receiving additional medical treatment. A criminal investigation of animal cruelty and abandonment is being conducted by Animal Control. The dog is not currently available for adoption.
