First new Rainier beer in 20 years is being brewed in Woodinville

SEATTLE -- It took 20 years, but the first new Rainier beer is officially out.

It's called Rainier Pale Mountain Ale, and it will cost you about $11.99 for a six-pack.

Our news partners, The Seattle Times, asked some local bartenders for reviews.

Ryan Minch, with Rhein Haus, said: "Rainier, you heard we like local, but you gave us a brand that forgets why we drink it. We drink it because it's cheap, because we don't identify with Budweiser and because of the big 'R' on I-5 south."

Ian Roberts, who owns the Pine Box, tells the Times the beer is clean and pretty good -- but not on par with local craft pale ales.

The new beer is brewed in Woodinville and made from Yakima Valley hops using a recipe the parent companys says is modeled on the Rainier sold here during the 1930s and '40s.
