Nearly 2 dozen students injured after collision involving school buses in Renton

RENTON, Wash. -- Nearly two dozen students were injured when two school buses were involved in a crash Friday morning in Renton.

According to Renton firefighters, 20 kids and one bus driver suffered minor to moderate injuries.

Officials said 10 students were transported by ambulance, 10 others were taken by parents.

8-year-old Lai’aysia Rhodes says the impact knocked her out of her seat.

"The bus just crashed into us out of nowhere," said Rhodes.

Crews were called around 9:30 a.m. to the 2100 block of SW Sunset Blvd.

The cause of the crash was unknown, officials said, but other vehicles were involved in the crash.

"This is terrifying," said parent Anthony Samuels.

His daughter was on one of the buses.  Samuels said he planned on taking her to the doctor.

"She said she hit her head and bumped her knees real bad," said Samuels.

Authorities said students on the buses were headed to Lakeridge Elementary School.

The district said the buses were not seriously damaged, but other buses were called in to take students to school as soon as possible.

Both buses were being towed from the scene. The district will conduct a full investigation.  A spokesperson said both buses passed safety inspections earlier this year.
