Young daughter put out multiple fires set by mom in Everett apartment before it caught, court documents allege

EVERETT – An Everett mother allegedly grew paranoid of people and set fire to her apartment with her daughter inside because she wanted to create an opportunity to leave, according to probable-cause documents filed by the Snohomish County sheriff’s department on Thursday.

Nobody was hurt in the fire at the Hillcrest Estates apartments on Wednesday afternoon. Q13 News isn’t naming the woman because she hasn’t been charged.

According to the court documents, the woman used matches to set several fires in the apartment, but her 11-year-old daughter put most of them out. Finally, however, a fire in the laundry room took off and the woman and her daughter ran out of the apartment.

Police said they believe the woman was suicidal, and that she said she worried she was a bad mother who couldn’t provide the life she wanted for her daughter.
