Toll increase: Get ready to pay more to cross SR 520 floating bridge this summer

SEATTLE -- Washington state will raise the toll on the SR 520 bridge across Lake Washington this summer.

The Washington State Transportation Commission has voted to increase the toll by 5 percent beginning July 1. That will raise the peak rate for crossing the lake from $3.90 to $4.10.

The money will go toward the new 520 floating bridge and other improvements. The toll rate will increase another 20 cents on July 1, 2017.

Nighttime tolling will also begin the summer of 2017. It will cost drivers $1.25 to cross the bridge between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The commission also voted to repeal the 50 cent toll increase on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge thanks to money appropriated by state lawmakers to pay off the bridge debt.
