Exhibit marking 50 anniversary of Star Trek TV series to open at Seattle museum Saturday

SEATTLE -- This is the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek on television, and the series and its spin-offs are being celebrated at Seattle's EMP Museum.

The Experience Music Project Museum has been working for the past two years to put together an exhibit from the show, as well as the four spin-offs.

From uniforms worn by Captains Kick and Picard, to replicas of the star ships, to items that tell Star Trek's cultural stories.

Curator Brooks Peck says the original Star Trek was a product of the time -- interest in the space race, civil upheaval and Vietnam. Creator Gene Roddenberry wanted to tell an optimistic story of the future, Peck said.

The exhibit has about 100 items from the show, including items from fans -- such as sweaters, wine and even cookbooks.

The exhibit opens Saturday. For more information, go to the EMP website by clicking here.
