Online meetup in Des Moines ends with man shot, car stolen

DES MOINES, Wash. -- Police are investigating an online meetup that ended with a shooting and a carjacking overnight in Des Moines.

Authorities were called around 1 a.m. Monday to S 244th St & 25th Ave S near Highline College.

Police say the victim apparently met a woman online and set up a meet with her at the intersection. He called his cousin, who is an Uber driver, and the two came with a friend.

But when they arrived, police say a man jumped out of the bushes and shot the victim in the chest. The woman then jumped into the Uber car with the shooter and took off, stealing the car.

The victim was taken with life-threatening injuries to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Police are still looking for the suspects.

The stolen car is a 2014 four-door Chevy Malibu with temporary plates.

Only a vague description of the shooter was given -- a black male in his late teens. The woman with him was described only as in her early 20s.
