Murder charges sought against 2 Yakima County Jail inmates after prisoner found stabbed to death

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate at the Yakima County jail was found dead Wednesday with significant trauma to his upper body. The Yakima Herald reported he had been stabbed to death.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office said in a news release deputies were called to the jail Wednesday morning for a death.

Investigators say they found 27-year-old Timothy Denton of Yakima deceased. Denton had been arrested by Yakima police and booked into the jail Tuesday evening for domestic violence assault.

The sheriff's office said after viewing surveillance video, investigators have added booking charges of murder against two inmates, a 25-year-old man from Yakima and a 19-year-old man from Outlook.

No additional details on what led to the death were immediately available, although a Yakima County Sheriff's Office sergeant told the Yakima Herald there were "some indications the motive was gang-related."

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
