Burien family mourning, wants answers after 17-year-old girl shot to death

BURIEN, Wash. -- Investigators are trying to piece together what happened after a 17-year old girl was shot to death in Burien.

Angelina Grant confirmed to Q13 News Thursday night that her teenage sister, Kaylynn Voegele, was shot and killed Wednesday night.

“She was a good person. She was 17 years old, had her whole life ahead of her. She didn't get to graduate high school yet,” said Grant, wiping away tears.

King County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 17-year-old boy  in connection with the shooting that killed Voegele.

Witnesses at the Spring Creek Apartments heard arguing and then three gunshots.

“Put the guns down and stop the violence. They think they're all big and bad and everything, but what is a gun going to do now that you're behind bars,” said Grant.

Sheriff’s deputies believe Kaylynn and the teen suspect knew each other. Kaylynn's sisters say they thought she was working at her job at a nearby fast food restaurant. But on Thursday night, her manager told Q13 News she didn't work her shift last night. He also says he knew she'd been having trouble with a boy but he didn't know who or why.

Kaylynn’s family will hold a candlelight vigil Friday at 8 p.m. at the intersection of 156th and Ambaum in Burien.  Everyone from the community is welcome to attend.
