Seahawks add RB, TE and offensive lineman with glut of third-round picks

SEATTLE – A running back. A tight end. An offensive lineman.

The Seattle Seahawks used their glut of picks in the third-round to beef up their offense some more, adding a potentially electrifying offensive weapon and two huge bodies to their attack.

Seattle entered the third round with three picks within eight spots of each other: Nos. 90, 94 and 97 overall.

With the first of those, they gave themselves another option at running back in Notre Dame’s C.J. Prosise.

Prosise (6-0, 219) converted to running back last season after spending most of his career at wide receiver and safety. He ran for 1,032 yards and 11 touchdowns last year, and caught 26 passes for 308 yards and another TD.

It remains to be seen if Prosise will get a chance to compete for the starting job with Thomas Rawls after Marshawn Lynch’s retirement, or if the Seahawks have more unconventional plans for him. Rawls is still recovering from the broken ankle he suffered last season.

Four picks later, Seattle added a tight end in Ohio State's Nick Vannett.  Seattle already has a star tight end in Jimmy Graham, of course, but Graham isn’t fully back from a knee injury that cost him much of last season.

Vannett, who stands 6-foot-6, 257 pounds, caught 55 passes for 585 yards and six touchdowns in four seasons for the Buckeyes.

Vannett has apparently drawn the occasional comparison to star Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski as a big tight end whose a dual threat as a blocker and pass-catcher.

"I believe I'm a guy who can do both as well as he does. I'm not at that point yet, but I'm working to get to his level," Vannett said recently. "I've been hearing things from other people calling me 'Baby Gronk,' so I'm going to do my best to keep that going, because that's a helluva comparison. I'm cool with that."

Finally, the Seahawks selected Boise State offensive lineman Rees Odhiambo, a 6-foot-3, 314 pounder who played tackle for the Broncos.

The Seahawks said they've got Odhiambo listed as a guard.

Earlier in the day, the Seahawks moved up in the second round to take Alabama defensive tackler Jarran Reed. On Thursday, they grabbed Texas A&M's Germain Ifedi with the final pick of the first round.

Seattle traded away its fourth-round picks; here's what remains:
