No sign of missing Arlington couple after vehicles found with 'extensive damage' in woods

DARRINGTON, Wash. -- Detectives found no sign of a missing Arlington couple after discovering their two vehicles with "extensive damage" down an embankment in a remote, wooded area near Oso, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.

Patrick Shunn, 45, and his wife,  Monique Patenaude, 46, of Arlington, have not been seen since late Monday and were reported missing by their neighbors on Tuesday afternoon. Investigators at the time that their two vehicles were missing, too.

Their Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover were spotted late Thursday in a remote, wooded area in the Oso area by a sheriff's helicopter and detectives were able to reach the vehicles by foot Friday to conduct a search.

"The vehicles were approximately 200 feet from each other and had extensive damage," the sheriff's office said in a news release issued Friday night, adding that the cars were towed from the area after the search.

The sheriff’s office said detectives are continuing their investigation into the "suspicious" disappearance of Shunn and Patenaude. "They have yet to uncover evidence that reveals the current location of either Shunn or his wife" after searching their vehicles, the news release said.

 

Shunn was last seen at his workplace in Kirkland on Monday, but did not report for work the next day.  Patenaude was last seen around 1 p.m. on Monday near the couple’s residence at the 27800 block of Whitman Road, Ireton said.

Friends and family say the happily married couple's disappearance is a mystery to them.

On Friday night, a vigil was being held for the couple at the Oso General Store on U.S. Route 530.
