Overturned semi on Alaskan Way Viaduct creates delays, spills dozens of boxes of king crab

SEATTLE -- An overturned semi was causing big delays on northbound SR 99 Monday afternoon in Seattle, even long after it was cleared.

The truck, which was full of Alaskan king crab, was towed away just after 4:30 p.m.

Boxes of crab continued to rain down on the road below long after the crash.

The Seattle Police Department said the driver of the truck lost control at about 2:30 p.m., and the trailer tipped over in the northbound lanes and came to rest on the guardrail. No one was injured in the crash.

"Engineers have inspected the damage to the Alaskan Way Viaduct and verified that no structural damage occurred," SPD said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

An SDOT camera showed the crash blocking the right lane of the Alaskan Way Viaduct just after S Royal Brougham Way.
