Police searching for suspect accused of shooting at deputy during high-speed chase near Shelton

SHELTON, Wash. --- Authorities are searching for a driver who they say led police on a wild high-speed chase and shooting overnight near Shelton.

Deputies say a 27-year-old Joshua Weythman Baker took off when an officer tried to pull him over around 11 p.m. Thursday on SR 3.

Speeds hit 100 mph and the driver began shooting at the Mason County sheriff's deputy, authorities said. The deputy was not hurt.

The chase came to an end on E. Johns Prairie Road near SR 3 when both suspects jumped out and fled on foot.

Officials say the deputy fired at the armed suspect. They do not believe anyone was injured.

Deputies called in K9s and their Guardian One helicopter which uses thermal imaging to search for people in the dark.

Authorities said after a thorough search, they did not find either Baker or the woman who was also in the car.

Joshua Weythman Baker is described as 27 years old, 6' tall, 200 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He has two felony warrants for escape from DOC community custody and possession of a stolen firearm.
