Reminder: Drivers need to remove studded tires by March 31
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — State transportation officials say Thursday is the last day for Washington and Oregon drivers to remove their studded tires or face an expensive ticket. Studded tires can wear down pavement, so they are banned each spring.
The Washington Department of Transportation has extended the deadline in previous years because of the weather. But officials say that’s not going to happen this year. Transportation crews will monitor roads and work to clear late season snow or ice.
Washington and Oregon share the same studded tire removal date. Other states may have later deadlines, but the law applies to all drivers, even visitors. Washington transportation officials say no personal exemptions or waivers are issued.
