A new social media trend going viral online has a lot of people asking, "Is this for real?"

It's called "thigh gap jewelry," ornaments that appear to have been created for the space some women have between their inner thighs.

However, it turns out this "trend" is not actually the hottest must-have fashion for teens, thigh gap jewelry is actually part of a positive body image campaign, according to KSTU.

The company TGAP Jewellery doesn't even sell the 18K gold-plated pieces – it's a front to shine light on what they say is the latest unattainable Hollywood trend.

TGAP's website states its mission is to "catalyze a debate on unrealistic body image social media portrays."

When shoppers try to purchase the handmade items online, they are met with statistics about body image and information on how to get help.

Instead of jewelry, shoppers are given facts about the "thigh gap" and the truth about physiological misconceptions. (Courtesy: TGAP Jewellery http://www.tgapj.com/)
