Prosecutors: Mom, grandma charged after Auburn toddler eats meth

AUBURN, Wash. (AP) — King County prosecutors say a mom and grandmother face felony charges after a toddler was sickened by eating methamphetamine.

Officials told Seattlepi.com the 18-month-old Auburn boy is recovering. Prosecutors say he swallowed meth while being watched by his grandmother, Bridgett Jackson. The boy's mother, Almesha Dedrick, also has been charged with criminal mistreatment.

Investigators claim the women waited for hours to take the poisoned child to a hospital. When they did, the women allegedly lied to police and attempted to blame someone else.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Cecelia Gregson said in charging papers the women allowed the boy to suffer through hours of pain to protect themselves.
