Bellevue High holds annual 'Soup for Simpson' fundraiser for homeless teen shelter in Seattle

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Bellevue High School held their annual 'Soup for Simpson" fundraiser Wednesday that benefits a teen homeless shelter in Seattle.

As part of the event -- now in its 11th year -- students donate their lunch money and receive a cup of soup in return. All the money they raise goes to help  the New Horizons homeless shelter for teens in Seattle.

"Soup for Simpson" was inspired by Hunter Simpson, a senior at Bellevue who in 2005 was diagnosed with a brain tumor but who still spent his last year of life saving his lunch money to help the homeless.

Not counting Wednesday's donations, the school has raised more than $48,000 in the past 10 years.
