Sounders' Mears gets a green card, no longer occupies international roster slot

SEATTLE – Seattle Sounders defender Tyrone Mears has been issued a green card, the team said Tuesday, meaning he no longer occupies an international spot on the club’s roster.

Mears, 33, has played in 35 matches for the Sounders since joining the club before last season. He led the team with 33 matches played last season – all starts.

There are no seven players utilizing international roster spots on the club: Oalex Anderson, Oniel Fisher, Erik Friberg, Andreas Ivanschitz, Joevin Jones, Román Torres and Nelson Valdez.

The Sounders will play host to the Montreal Impact on Saturday at 7 p.m., with coverage beginning on Q13 FOX at 6:30 p.m.
