Boy, 13, who was featured in anti-violence PSA critically injured in shooting

CHICAGO -- One person is dead and 28 others are injured in shootings on the south and west side of Chicago.

The youngest victim: Zarriel Trotter, a 13-year-old boy who was recently featured in a PSA calling for an end to gun violence. (Zarriel Trotter appears at the 30-second mark.)

Around 8:30 p.m. Friday night, an argument broke out between two groups of people in the 5500 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the city's Austin neighborhood, according to WGN.

Police said a man from one of the groups pulled out a gun and fired shots.

Trotter was standing on the sidewalk away from the fight when he was hit, police said.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Trotter underwent surgery on Saturday. He remains in critical condition.

Police said they believe he was not the intended target in the shooting.
