Washington lawmakers struggling to reach budget deal

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — More than two weeks into an overtime legislative session, lawmakers are still struggling to reach a budget deal.

While budget negotiators continued to meet Friday, most lawmakers continued to stay back at their districts until told to return for any potential votes. Because of the holiday weekend, the earliest that is expected would be early next week.

While he wouldn't go into specifics, Democratic House Majority Leader Pat Sullivan said Thursday that a few sticking points remain, including one related to overtime for home care workers.

Gov. Jay Inslee called the special session immediately after the regular 60-day session ended March 10, and vetoed 27 bills because lawmakers didn't make a budget deal before the deadline.
