Coast Guard rescues teen hiker after 200-foot fall

WARRENTON, Ore. (AP) — A Coast Guard helicopter crew has rescued a 16-year-old boy who fell up to 200 feet while hiking near Multnomah Falls.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office says the teen from Troutdale fell near the top of Angel's Rest trailhead on Wednesday.

A Coast Guard crew from Astoria was able to transport the boy to medical personnel at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland by Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say an off-duty paramedic and emergency doctor were hiking in the area at the time and stabilized the teen on the side of a cliff. Officials say the teen may have suffered injuries to his head and spine.

His name was not released.
