Immediately after arrest, driver tells reporter he started high-speed chase because 'I always have weed on me'

ROCKWALL, Texas - Interviewed moments after he was arrested by Texas police, a driver said he took off when an officer tried to pull him over because “I always have weed on me.”

"I'm done with people trying to take my freedom because I smoke weed,” 26 year old Jonathan Davis told Fox 4. “You can drink, it's ten times worse.”

Police said the 100 mph chase began in Rockwall and ended in Waco, when they spiked Davis’ Mazda and shot out his tires before he eventually crashed into a guardrail.

"Police pulled me over I guess because I was on my iPhone or something,” Davis told Fox 4. “I don't know what happened. I am new to this state. I just moved here two months ago I didn't really pay attention to don't text and drive or whatever. So I did it and he pulled me over."

Davis said he was on his way to San Antonio, and wasn’t sure what roads he was on.

“Until they shot my car,” he said. “I didn’t know they was gonna shoot at me! I was like, ‘damn, they shootin’ at me? I ain’t even got no gun!’”

David also called the chase “a thrill.”

“It was definitely a thrill,” he told Fox 4. “If you go fast in any car, race track, here, it’s fun anyway to me. I’m just an adrenaline junkie."
