Authorities: White powder found in Mill Creek not hazardous

MILL CREEK, Wash. -- Authorities said a white powder initially thought as suspicious was tested and found not to be hazardous. The powder was found Sunday in several different parts of Mill Creek.

According to the city of Mill Creek, officers were called to Cougar Park around 3:15 p.m. for the report of an unknown white substance on the sidewalk and trails. Witnesses told officers that two white males in their 20s carrying backpacks were seen leaving the area.

Later that evening, more white powder was found on 148th Street, Northpoint Circle and 144th Street.

Officers took samples of the substance for testing. The rest of the powder was washed away in order to mitigate any hazards to people or pets, officials said.

On Monday, testing determined the powder was not hazardous.
