Sea-Tac Airport expansion plans unveiled: 'We are growing like a weed basically'

SEA-TAC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT-- Officials with the Port of Seattle held an open house Wednesday evening to show the public new plans for expansion and modification at the airport.

An additional terminal and an added three-dozen gates are just a small part of the 20-year master plan that was presented.

Airport spokesperson Perry Cooper said the expansion is necessary as the region continues to boom.

"We are growing like a weed basically, and we have got to figure out how we’re going to manage that traffic not only from the aircraft, but how we handle it in the terminal and passengers -- even in the way they arrive to the airport."

Frequent flyers we talked to welcome the additional plans.

Larry Yenglin said, "It’s packed there already; it’s amazing how many people are there. There’s not enough room."

Officials will host a number of open house meetings across the region to educate travelers. For more information, visit https://www.portseattle.org/Business/Construction-Projects/Airport-Projects/Pages/airport-master-plan.aspx
