Transportation commission votes unanimously to partially scrap I-405 tolls

OLYMPIA – Driver complaints finally took their toll on lawmakers.

The state transportation commission voted on Tuesday afternoon to partially scrap express lane tolling on Interstate 405.

Bowing to intense public pressure, commissioners voted to eliminate the tolls on weeknights, weekends and holidays.

Drivers complained that the tolls made traffic worse for many drivers, and that the dynamic pricing of the lanes reached unfairly high levels.

The new rules go into effect Friday at 7 p.m. There will now be no tolls from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The vote was unanimous.
