Idaho lawmakers advance legislation to allow concealed carry without a permit or training

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho lawmakers have advanced legislation that would allow people 21 years old and up carry hidden guns without permits or training.

The Senate State Affairs Committee voted 6-3 on Monday to send Senate Bill 1389 to the Senate floor. Democratic Sens. Michelle Stennett and Cherie Buckner-Webb along with Senate Majority Leader Bart Davis voted nay.

Currently, Idaho allows permits people to carry a gun openly — in a holster, for instance — without a permit.

The bill would let people carry concealed, loaded guns in public without permits, such as by wearing a coat. People ages 18 through 20 would need a permit and training.

If approved, Idaho would join a small handful of states that don't require concealed carry permits.
