Renton Police searching for man accused of raping teen in church bathroom

RENTON  --  Renton Police are searching a man suspected of raping a 15-year-old girl in a bathroom at Calvary Baptist Church.

“It’s the worst nightmare of any pastor, because you are there to protect your people and love them,” Pastor Carlos Rodriguez said in an interview Thursday night.

Rodriguez said the teen and her family are members of his congregation, Iglesia Vida. They hold services at Calvary Baptist on Sundays and Wednesdays.

On February 3, police say, the victim saw the suspect in the hallway holding a flip phone. She went into the bathroom and shut the door. Police say he pushed his way in and raped her.  Police say the teen didn’t tell anyone about the attack until February 14. By then the security camera footage had been recorded over.

Officers do have a good description of the man they’re looking for.  He’s described as white or Hispanic, 5-foot-9, 30 to 40 years old, with a chubby build and acne on his forehead.  He has black spikey hair.  He wore a gold necklace with a crucifix medallion, an orange shirt and dark blue jeans.  Police say he spoke with a Hispanic accent.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 TIPS.
