Did you forget to file your taxes for 2012? Washington residents who didn't have $25 million coming their way

SEATTLE - Think hard: Did you file a tax return for 2012?

If not, you might have a nice little chunk of change coming your way - but you'll need to get a move on if you want to collect it.

The IRS said Washington residents who failed to file for 2012 have about $25.2 million owed to them. About half of those refunds total $765 or more.

Much of that is due to people who don't make a bunch of money.

“Many of those who did not file in 2012 may also be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit which could potentially increase their refund,” said IRS spokesman David Tucker. “EITC is targeted toward those workers with low-or-moderate incomes.”

There's no penalty for filing a late return if you're due a refund.

The deadline to file is Monday, April 18.

"We especially encourage students and others who didn't earn much money to look into this situation because they may still be entitled to a refund," IRS commissioner John Koskinen said in a press release.
