Woman fights off attacker in attempted abduction, Tumwater police say

TUMWATER, Wash. -- Police are searching for an attacker who tried to grab a woman and pull her into a wooded area Monday night. Investigators are calling it an attempted abduction.

The attack happened near Munn Lake and 72nd Avenue SE around 9:30 p.m. Investigators say the 40-year-old woman fought off the man who then disappeared.

“Tumwater is a quiet neighborhood not a lot of stuff goes on here like that,” said Greg Cearley who walks the neighborhood with his wife.

The victim was physically assaulted, according to police.  Search dogs went through the neighborhood, but were unable to locate the suspect.

“It’s disturbing. Obviously, someone is out here with intent,” said Cearley.

Police are asking people in the neighborhood to remain vigilant and be careful especially when walking at night. If you have any information, you are encouraged to contact the Tumwater Police department.
