Low-fare carrier Spirit Airlines turns on lights at Sea-Tac Airport

SEA-TAC INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT -- The low-fare carrier Spirit Airlines has switched on its signs at Sea-Tac -- the first new domestic airline there since 2008.

On March 24, Spirit will start twice-daily service between Seattle and Los Angeles -- and add flights to Las Vegas on April 14.

Spirit charges low base rates, but charges for things travelers are accustomed to getting for free, such as assigned seats, overhead storage and carry-ons.

A round-trip flight between Sea-Tac and LAX will cost you $78 getting there and $48 for the return. But they will charge you $26 each way for a carry-on. And your first checked bag is $21.
